Because of my background as a military officer, and because I have been a student of warfare most of my life, I more naturally gravitate toward an understanding of military strategy and Page xx tactics.

Today there exist two schools of strategic thought related to Vietnam War analysis. One might be represented as the insurgency school, and the other as the conventional school. 17 A third assertion of this study contends that there was not simply one, but two separate insurgencies in Vietnam after 1945.
